Zoanthrope WIP

Unfortunately I didn't think about posting a WIP until after I started working on the two additional Zoanthropes to complete my unit of three.

I started my customizing of the Zoanthropes by using a razor saw and cutting the heads off at the base of the neck.  I then glued them turned at an angle...one to the left and the other to the right to give a bit of variation to the first one I did that was looking straight ahead.
Also, I didn't like how the torso fit with the tail section so I used a bit of green stuff to fill in the gaps and modeled another rib and armor piece at the bottom to make it transition nicely.
After all the green stuff was hardened, I based it in flat white and started painting.  I wanted my Tyranids to have a more realistic look to them so I found a color scheme (I will try to add a link to the blog that I got the main paint scheme from) that looks good and doesn't appear to tacky.  I started by basing all the armor pieces in red gore (thinned down a bit).

Next I washed the armor pieces in Scorched Earth that has been thinned out to milk consistency.  I will use one or two coats Depending on how dark I want the carapace.  I try and change my techniques a little on each model so they all have a slight variation and don't all look the same.

Next I feathered the armor pieces with Snakebite leather about 3/4 of the way up the armor.  Try varying the lengths so they don't look so uniform.
